Online Market Segmentation Resources All of the Web sites listed below will give you a better understanding of the different types of groups, or maket segments, that have been identified on the Web today. CyberAtlas is now part of the Internet.com portal, and includes a lot of good marketing segmentation articles and data. For instance, there is The CyberAtlas Statistics Toolbox, which is a "resource that allows CyberAtlas visitors to easily find statistics, numbers, and tables that have run on the site." As you would expect, eMarketer is an online publication that covers topics that are of interest to marketers on the Internet, including many demographic reports on Web usage. Although many of its reports are not available in their entirety unless you pay for them, there is enough "teaser" information to make the site worth visiting. Graphics, Visualization & Usability (GVU) Center at Georgia Tech According to their home page, "GVU's World Wide Web Surveys are produced periodically by the College of Computing. Though lacking the validity of a true scientifically-selected random survey, the GVU survey of Web users has provided an interesting and widely respected snapshot of who's using the Internet." ICONOCAST is written by Michael Tchong, the founder of MacWEEK and CyberAtlas. Its home page declares that it "is the definitive source for facts, figures, trends, and rumors in the Internet marketing industry." Make sure to check out "Internet at a Glance" which gives you key Internet statistics on a single page. Jupiter Communications provides detailed research and analysis on the Internet and telecommunications industries. Although you have to pay for many of their reports, you can view some good samples on their Web site, like "Online Gift Buying" and "Inside the Mind of the Online Consumer." Yahoo! Statistics and Demographics Under its Yahoo!'s Computers & Internet listing shown on its Home page, you can access all types of Internet Statistics and Demographics, including surveys and Web traffic data.
